What does a Parents Association actually do?
The function of the Parents Association is to provide a structure through which parents in a school can work together for the best possible education for their children. To achieve this the Parents Association works with the Principal, staff and BOM to build an effective partnership between the home and school.
The Education Act of 1998 states that “membership of a Parents Association shall be open to all parents of students of that school”.
So the Parents Association is not just the committee but consists of all the parents whose children attend Scoil Ui Riada. Becoming actively involved with the Parents Association is your chance to get involved with your childs’ education.
We organise the annual Halloween Disco, held in the local GAA. This is a very popular and well supported event and gives the children the opportunity to dress up in fancy dress and dance till they drop!!
The St. Patricks’ Day Parade has been a great day out for both parents and children walking with the school ‘float’ and Scoil Ui Riada has won trophy’s for their efforts the last two years.
The bi-monthly newsletter is a “bulletin board” for all parents, providing info on a range of topics, including school notices, activities for children in the locality, ‘confident children’, useful websites for parents and children.
Last February saw the first non-uniform day in Scoil Ui Riada. All our pupils were delighted with the chance to wear their ‘normal gear’.
At Easter time we organise a colouring/short story or poem competition which is open to all pupils with tasks depending upon class level. There is a prize for each class winner and a ‘crème egg’ for all children.
